What we do

We support children and youth to reach their full potential by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their bodies, relationships, and sexual health.

Apause Youth Organisation is dedicated to empowering young people with accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive sexual education. Through workshops, discussions, and resources, we aim to foster a safe space where youth can learn about consent, healthy relationships, sexual health, and personal well-being.

Adding power and understanding in sex education program

Adding Power and Understanding to Sex Education, is a uniquely effective approach to relationships and sex education.

It is unique because, as a public health intervention, it has proved effective in the USA, UK and Ireland in empowering young people to develop those understandings, beliefs and behaviours which enable them to recognise and reduce exposure to risks and achieve greater control in their sexual relationships.

In Malawi this means that girls, in particular, who participate in Apause will be more likely to complete their education.  Why? Because they are less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy, less likely to get married at an early age and less likely contract STIs, including HIV.

Human rights and Democracy

By upholding human rights and democratic principles, sex education can be a powerful tool for promoting healthy relationships, preventing violence and discrimination, and supporting the well-being and empowerment of all individuals.

  1. Participatory Democracy: Comprehensive sex education should involve the participation of diverse stakeholders, including young people, parents, educators, healthcare providers, and community leaders, to ensure that programs are responsive to local needs and contexts.
  2. Inclusive and Equitable Education: Democratic principles emphasize the importance of inclusive and equitable education, including sex education that respects the diversity of students’ experiences, backgrounds, and identities.
  3. Transparency and Accountability: Democratic governance requires transparency and accountability in the development and implementation of sex education programs, ensuring that they are evidence-based, effective, and responsive to community needs.
  4. Protection of Vulnerable Groups: Democratic societies have a responsibility to protect the rights and well-being of vulnerable groups, including young people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those living with HIV/AIDS, by providing comprehensive and inclusive sex education.

Out of school youth & women Empowerment

Apause Youth Organisation is committed to advancing women’s and youth empowerment by creating spaces for women to learn, grow, and lead. We offer programs that inspire self-confidence, cultivate leadership skills, and promote gender equality.

Non communicable Disease

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic health conditions that are not caused by infectious agents and cannot be spread from person to person. Common NCDs include heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and respiratory diseases, often linked to lifestyle factors such as poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive alcohol use. For Apause Youth Organisation, raising awareness about the impact of NCDs is crucial in empowering young people to adopt healthier habits and reduce their risk. Through education and prevention strategies, we aim to inspire youth to make informed choices that promote long-term well-being and a healthier future for all.

Environment

Through education, advocacy, and hands-on projects, we inspire youth to become environmental stewards, promoting awareness of climate change, conservation, and sustainable living. Apause encourages young leaders to innovate, collaborate, and drive positive environmental change in their communities, ensuring a healthier planet for generations to come.
